Description: This webinar will focus on aspects of emotions and emotion regulation that can interfere with motivation in school, particularly for teens and tweens. The presenters will discuss ways of identifying when and how emotions are interfering with school motivation, as well as strategies for educators, providers, and families to help these students better regulate their emotions and engage in learning.

Description: This webinar will focus on cognitive barriers to students being engaged and motivated in learning, with a specific focus on those with challenges learning to read and those with speech and language difficulties. Specific strategies from the Science of Reading will be discussed as a way to motivate students to be more engaged in learning, as well as other strategies.

Objectives: 

  1. Identify how difficulties in cognition and literacy can affect students' motivation.

  2. Discuss two strategies from the Science of Reading to motivate students to learn.

  3. Describe two cognitive strategies to engage students in more motivated learning.

Dr. Jordan Wright

Dr. Wright is a clinical and developmental psychologist with expertise in psychological assessment. He is a Clinical Associate Professor and Director of the PhD Program at NYU, as well as the Founding Director of the NYU Center for Counseling and Community Wellbeing, and is focused on social justice issues in the mental health space broadly. Dr. Karen Dudek-Brannan 

Karen Dudek-Brannan Ed.D., M.S., CCC-SLP/L is the founder and owner/operator of Dr. Karen, LLC, a company focused on empowering therapists and educators to design interventions that support language, literacy, and executive functioning.
